PMD’s annual budget is $106,000. The Board and Executive Director send an end-of-year annual appeal (fundraising letter) and organize a spring benefit to raise most of the funds from individuals, supported by several smaller, board-hosted or -staffed fundraising events. Several major donors support PMD through donor-advised funds. Investments are currently limited to a T-bill and money market fund needed for positive cash flow. PMD’s financial records, which are currently maintained in desktop QuickBooks, are based on bookkeeping by the Executive Director. PMD only owes taxes related to staffing, and this is handled by a payroll services company. The Treasurer should expect to contribute 20 to 30 hours each year. This will generally be concentrated around annual financial statement preparation, the annual filings, and any special projects that arise. We estimate 8-12 hours for the annual closings (ideally in January but can be in February) and filings (due May 15 but can be extended to November 15); and 1-2 hours to review and annotate the budget after the prior fiscal year has been closed. Basic board involvement requires attendance at quarterly board meetings (usually late January/early February, late April, and mid-November), sometimes a day-long retreat (summer), board conference calls/zoom meetings, annual benefit (May), annual appeal mailing (second or third weekend in November in Randolph). PMD is keenly aware that most professionals have certain times during the year that they are unavailable due to quarterly closings, audits, tax filings, etc. This has not generally posed an issue since meetings, fundraising events, calls, and remote work are scheduled according to board members’ availability.

There is no set amount of money that I must raise because I am making a good-faith agreement to do my best.
• Committing to serving a 3-year term, renewable by board vote
• Attending all 4 board meetings- and occasional others as needed- unless circumstances beyond my control prevent my attendance. I will read materials sent to me in advance of the board meetings and come prepared.
• Promoting, supporting, and expanding SCIJ’s reach. This may include representing SCIJ to the community; inviting SCIJ staff to speak at meetings you attend such as with religious, professional, nonprofit, and community groups; helping to boost SCIJ’s media and social media presence; and attending SCIJ events, when relevant and able.
• Working in good faith with my fellow board members and staff toward the achievement of the goals of the organization. Finding the right balance of being available to help and support the SCIJ Executive Director and staff, while not overburdening their time.

Who We Serve: We serve unemployed and under-employed adults with low-income jobs in the Greater Boston area age 19 to 55. Our participants are a diverse group, with some coming from other regions of the world. Most of our clients' previous work experience consists of minimum-wage jobs. They are ready to start building a career, and benefit greatly from formal classes, one-one-one coaching, and learning from peers about the job application process, workplace culture, and how to continue advancing and building their career after landing a job. Our Impact: Most of the clients who walk through our doors for the first time are making between $2,000 to $11,000 a year. Two years after completing our program, 70% of our clients have full-time jobs with benefits, and they're making approximately $32,000 a year. Approximately 70% of our clients who were placed in jobs in 2015 were still employed two years later in 2017. A strong Board of Directors is critical to the organizations long term success in achieving our mission. Our Board members help guide the organization towards a sustainable future by ensuring the organization practices sound governance and financial management, And, the Board of Directors is responsible for ensuring the organization always has adequate resources and excellent leadership to advance its mission.

The Clerk should expect to volunteer 40 hours annually. This time is generally concentrated around the board meetings (typically weeknights in January or February, April, and an annual fundraising mailing half-day on a weekend in early-to-mid November), occasionally a day-long retreat (summer), board conference calls, the annual benefit (spring), and any special projects that arise. PMD is keenly aware that many professionals have certain times during the year when they are unavailable – This has not generally posed an issue since meetings, calls, and events are scheduled according to reasonable member availability using scheduling software. The Clerk does not have to take meeting minutes him/her-self; s/he can delegate this task as long as it is completed within a week. The Clerk must sign and send forms for changes in officers to the Commonwealth, but this form and other filings are completed by PMD’s Executive Director. Candidates for Clerk must be residents of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. As a member of PMD’s governing body, some experience in community service is a plus. PMD seeks a three-year commitment, given the importance of continuity of management.
