Position United Way's Private Equity/Venture Capital Leadership Council

The Private Equity & Venture Capital (“PE/VC”) Leadership Council (“LC”) serves as an advisory and participatory body in the generation, advancement, and enhancement of key goals for United Way of Massachusetts Bay & Merrimack Valley. Specifically, each Council member will seek to build and strengthen a lifelong connection with United Way through service in the community, service to United Way, and engagement within the broader PE/VC community. Council members will take to heart the ‘Give-Advocate-Volunteer’ philosophy and serve as examples in the community of what it truly means to LIVE UNITED.

Where During the COVID-19 Pandemic, we will continue to meet on Zoom. Once it is safe to do so, we will consider having different committee members host meetings at their offices.
Commitment 1 to 3 hours/month
Donation Organization requires a specific amount of “give or get” for all board members.
Requirements

  • Regularly attend and actively participate in quarterly LC meetings. Additional conference calls (approximately two per year) may be necessary to coordinate specific logistics and opportunities.

  • Meet individually each year with United Way team member to provide feedback and insight on Council/industry strategy and discuss individual philanthropic vision.

  • Strategize and execute plans to foster deeper involvement of the PE/VC industry with United Way, including fostering a relationship with individual firms and determining annual calendar of events. Provide constructive feedback on United Way programming initiatives, messaging, and strategies, etc.

  • Identify and help cultivate new business prospects and strategic partners.

  • Attend and recruit fellow professionals to attend LC events and volunteer opportunities.

  • Attend a minimum of one volunteer opportunity throughout the year.

  • Stay informed about United Way news, ongoing efforts, and programming initiatives.

  • Participate in the planning and execution for the annual PE/VC Leadership Event, including providing input and feedback on event format and program, choice of venue, speakers, potential barriers to attendance, and communication plan for event.

    • Brainstorm and recruit new/returning sponsors to provide corporate support for United Way programs.

    • Identify and recruit attendees. Assist with follow up to encourage ongoing engagement.



  • When appropriate, lend name to periodic mailings sent to the PE/VC industry. Assist with acknowledging and stewarding industry donors, including participating in visits or making personal calls, emails, etc.

  • Provide strategic support, feedback, and analysis on current United Way initiatives.

On-boarding We will have an initial intake meeting to go over the roles and responsibilities of the committee and answer any questions you might have. After that, any new members will simply start attending group meetings.

Donation Requirements:

  • Members of the LC pledge an annual gift of $1,500, usually going towards the signature event.

  • LC members are asked to consider a personal gift at the Leadership level that reflects their commitment to United Way. Members will be recognized for their total financial contribution.

  • PE/VC giving will be reviewed across all avenues (workplace campaigns, events, etc.). LC members will offer insight on how to best meet participation goals and increase the number of professionals who give (any amount) each year.
