Our board | Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South was formed in 2019 through the merger of the Boys & Girls Club of Brockton (founded in 1990) and the Boys & Girls Club of Taunton (founded in 1902) in order to maximize our impacts in each respective community and bridge service gaps in our region. Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South is fueled by a mission "to nurture strong minds, healthy bodies and community spirit through youth-driven, high-impact programming in safe and fun environments" to ensure that every child has a positive place to spend their out-of-school-time hours. We hold an intrinsic belief that every child deserves an equal chance to pursue the American Dream, to have a genuine opportunity to realize their full potential – to achieve a Great Future. Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South is guided by our vision to ensure the greatest possible impact of our programs on the long-term positive trajectories of our members’ lives. Our vision can only be realized by maintaining lifelong relationships with Club alumni to support them after high school, utilizing data to better understand and evidence the impacts of our programs, and through efforts to increase community awareness of Club resources to ensure and increase the accessibility of our programs. Our organizational values stem from a commitment to creating an optimal Club experience for our members. Safety: Provide enriching experiences in safe and positive environments Inclusivity: Capitalize on the richness inherent in our differences Integrity: Conduct our mission furthering work with the greatest responsibility and accountability Empowerment: Provide a platform for our members' voices to be heard Access: Offer programs that are affordable, localized, and informed Through a combination of after-school, weekend, and summer camp programs Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South serves boys and girls ages 4 to 18 at our Brockton and Taunton Clubhouses, Camp Riverside, and at several extension sites throughout Southeastern Massachusetts. Among our current school year membership, 47% self-identify as Black (African American, Haitian, Cape Verdean, etc.), 26% self-identify as Multiracial, 12% self-identify as Hispanic, 11% self-identify as Caucasian, and 4% identify as Other. Our Brockton and Taunton Clubhouses are each located in areas with CDI (Community Disadvantage Index) ratings of 10 out of a maximum of 10. Our Clubs work with many children who are raised in cycles of poverty and who see violence within their home or neighborhood and see that as normal. Our Clubs play a crucial role in intercepting these generational cycles by inspiring our boys and girls, raising expectations, and providing them with opportunities for educational support to ensure that they can succeed, regardless of their life circumstances. Families in our region too often face the difficult task of having to cut ‘extras’ from their budget, which can include after-school programs and enrichment activities for their children. Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South provides affordable, accessible, safe, and enriching places where boys and girls can just be kids without worrying about the dangers their streets sometimes engender. Critically, Club memberships cost just $35 per year and no child is ever turned away due to inability to pay. |

On-boarding | Serving on a nonprofit Board of Directors requires great passion and devotion to serving one's community and striving to better the lives of others. We are honored that each of our board members has chosen to dedicate their precious time and energy to serve as members of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South's Board of Directors. The level of commitment that each Director demonstrates to our organization is invaluable and without their many contributions, our Clubs would not be where they are today. Individually, each of our board members brings invaluable skills and resources to BGCMS which elevate our board as a whole. Together -- through shared passion and collective action -- our board members have the power to push our Clubs to reach even greater heights. In order to position our board members to make the greatest possible impact for our kids and to help them achieve the greatest possible return on investment for everything they pour into their role as a board member, BGCMS has created a comprehensive Board of Directors Resource Guide to facilitate the onboarding process. Each board member helps position BGCMS to help our youth achieve great futures. This is done by attending board meetings, volunteering at and attending special events, serving on committees, soliciting gifts, and when making meaningful personal donations to fuel our mission and vision. Still, we know it can be challenging to keep track of the many unique ways that board members can generate support and raise awareness for BGCMS. Whether a Director has been on our board for just a few months or 25 years, our hope is that this guide will help them uncover new ways to level up their impact and make it even easier to fulfill their various roles and responsibilities. |

Additional Info | Presently, we have a strong, active, engaged Board of Directors with deep ties to the Greater Brockton and Greater Taunton communities. We have not invited new members to our board for the last 18-24 months as we completed a formal merger of two formerly standalone organization -- the Boys & Girls Club of Brockton and the Boys & Girls Club of Taunton -- in July of 2019 to form Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro South.
