Our board African Cultural Services, also known as Africano Waltham, is seeking new board members who share our passion for helping African youth succeed in school and in life. We are looking for a broad range of skills and experience to help our organization continue to grow. Our small, friendly, hands-on board is a great way to roll up your sleeves and make a real impact serving local youth and families in need.
Position We are looking for board members with a variety of skills and expertise who are interested in furthering our mission to uplift African immigrant youth and their families. Some of the areas that would be especially beneficial to us are:

  • Finance - Review reports and give guidance on budgeting and other financial matters. Skills including financial accounting and financial statement analysis, internal controls, tax preparation are helpful but not required.

  • Fundraising and Development - Assist with cultivation of donors and partnerships with businesses to help support our work through in-kind and cash donations. Grant assistance including identifying opportunities, site visits and writing.

  • Governance - Assist with board roles and oversight. Keep us up to date with best practices and training.

  • Technology - Support our technology including assistance with upgrading our current capabilities, and also help with web, video recordings, social media.

  • Human Resources and Legal - We welcome those who can advise us on legal matters and human resource practices.

Donation Organization strives for 100% board giving, but have no strict guidelines around financial contributions.
Requirements
On-boarding New board members will meet with the Executive Director and other board members to gain an understanding of the organization, its mission and goals. Board members are invited to stop by the Center in downtown Waltham to see our operations, and attend local performances and events when feasible. This will help you to get to know our wonderful community.
