Our board The Ellis Board of Directors (BoD) are the fiduciaries who steer Ellis towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies, as well as by ensuring Ellis has adequate resources to advance its mission.

In active collaboration and partnership with the CEO, the Board of Directors provides critical leadership and adds value on a number of levels related to skills-based volunteering and fundraising.

Directors are talented, highly committed business and community leaders from diverse backgrounds who demonstrate support for Ellis through sharing of their time, talent and resources.

Fundamental Responsibilities

-          Determine and communicate Ellis mission

-          Select CEO

-          Support CEO and review his/her performance

-          Ensure effective organizational planning

-          Ensure adequate resources

-          Ensure integrity of and excellence of Ellis’ programs

-          Elevate Ellis’ public image and outreach

 

Participation

-          Attend quarterly board meetings*

-          Attend Annual Meeting

-          Participate on at least one committee

-          Promote Ellis to potential new donors, board prospects

-          Attend annual Board planning sessions

-          Participate in two-hours of direct service within Ellis each year

-          Attend annual fundraising event

-          Assist in opening doors for CEO and make introductions

-          Speak with CEO and her team about identifying the ways in which you can help or improve your board service

-          Participate in a personal meeting with the CEO and Director of Development to help create a personal fundraising strategy

-          Give to the verbal appeals at events and donate tickets to Ellis events when you can’t be there, where staff can use them strategically.

-          Stay engaged, be proud of your service on Ellis’ Board and share your unique story with everyone

 

*Telephone participation permissible if there are extenuating circumstances

 

Financial Responsibility

Ellis’ ability to thrive is thanks in large part, both directly and indirectly, to the generosity our Board of Directors. As a general guideline, Board of Directors are expected to make Ellis one of their top three philanthropic priorities.

 

By 2021, all Board of Directors will be expected to “give or get” at the level of $10,000. Each board member is expect make a $2,500 personal gift to Ellis, and either personally contribute or fundraise the remainder.

 

Ellis also expects Directors to:

-          Support Ellis events by purchasing tickets/tables

-          Stretch gift giving during fundraising/capital campaigns

Position Ellis seeks creative, connected and smart individuals to join us as we work towards ways to improve the early childhood sector. Those passionate about early education and youth development and experienced in fundraising, marketing, finance, technology are ideal candidates.

Requirements Board and committee members hold office until the next annual meeting of members with a minimum three year expectation
