Our board
Position Friends of Young Achievers (FOYA) board members are expected to:

  • Bring enthusiasm and passion for education, youth development, and social justice. FOYA's work closes opportunity and achievements gaps and is crucial to the future college and career success of our 570 students.

  • Help create partnerships to benefit our students - both partnerships that involve financial support (corporate philanthropy) and/or new opportunities for students to learn (example - internships).
-Raise the profile of our school within your own networks, building new opportunities for the school and broadening our network of support.

  • Contribute at some level financially to FOYA's work. There is currently no "minimum contribution" and new board members will help set "policy" about board giving expectations when they are elected as new board members.

Our mission

The Friends of Young Achievers (FOYA), an independent 501c3 nonprofit created in 1999, supports the Young Achievers School’s efforts to expand high quality learning opportunities that empower its 570 students to realize their infinite potential. To meet this mission, FOYA builds partnerships, raises funds, manages grants, collaborates to develop the school budget, and builds awareness for the school’s work in the greater community. Young Achievers, a Boston Public School, is located in Mattapan; 80 percent of our kindergarten through 8th grade students are high-need.
