Potencia is an education nonprofit that empowers adult immigrants to gain upward economic mobility by offering personalized, low-cost English language education.


We envision a future where every adult immigrant feels confident contributing to their employers and communities, and every neighbor has a pathway for that journey.

Position

Key Responsibilities


1. Mission Stewardship & Strategy



  • Champion Potencia’s mission and values in all interactions

  • Provide strategic guidance on growth, partnerships, and program innovation

  • Serve as an ambassador to strengthen visibility and relationships


2. Fundraising & Financial Sustainability



  • Make a personally meaningful annual financial contribution

  • Participate in fundraising through outreach, introductions, and advocacy


3. Governance & Fiduciary Oversight



  • Ensure sound fiscal management, transparency, and ethical practices

  • Review and approve annual budgets and financial reports

  • Participate in the annual evaluation of the CEO


4. Board Development & Diversity



  • Identify, nominate, and mentor new members who reflect Potencia’s values and the diversity of the communities we serve

  • Promote inclusion and equity in all board activities

  • Foster a culture of collaboration and shared learning


5. Engagement & Representation



  • Attend and actively participate in board meetings
    Attend Potencia community events and represent the organization in professional or civic settings


6. Ethics & Accountability



  • Adhere to Potencia’s Conflict of Interest Policy and maintain confidentiality
    Approach board service with respect, empathy, and a spirit of partnership 
    Desired Qualifications

  • Passion for education, economic mobility, immigrant empowerment, and community impact
    Skills in one or more of: nonprofit governance, fundraising, finance, marketing communications, partnerships, or technology


Commitment to equity, inclusion, and collaborative leadership 


Term & Commitment



  • Term Length: 2 years (Renewal: two consecutive terms, four to six years total)

  • Meetings: Approximately 4–5 per year (mix of virtual and in-person)

  • Estimated Time Commitment: 4–6 hours per month
